The exuberant ample ladies spilling out of Beryl Cook's paintings are to be brought to life in an animated sitcom that will centre on the lives of seven working class women from Plymouth Hoe, Cook's home town.
Most of the action in the series Bosom Pals takes place in their local pub, the Dolphin, where Jimmy, the landlord, occasionally manages to get a word in edgeways.
For over forty years Cook s work has captured moments of social history to create a perceptive record of life in the second half of the twentieth century. Offering a unique chronicle of British life, her paintings present ordinary people going about their daily activities--girls at the disco or shopping at the mall; sailors on shore leave; men at the pub or at weekend sporting events.
